Imitation wood flooring, ceramic tile, or carpet are the most common types of flooring used in homes or office spaces, but a new trend is rising. Concrete staining has become one of the more popular alternatives for interior flooring. With this process the concrete actually absorbs the colors in the top layer of concrete giving a vivid translucent effect that is quite distinct from other decorative concrete surfaces.
In terms of maintenance and upkeep for your stained concrete floor basic dusting and mopping is only suggested. With one or more coats of sealer added to prolong life and add shine, you simply need to clean the surface with a dry towel/mop for dust and wet mop occasionally with basic soap and water. The durability and ease of use with these surfaces is visible in large businesses and buildings where traffic is heavy, such as Walmart and Costco.
For colors we prefer using Sherwin Williams H&C colors for our staining jobs. Here's a link to the Sherwin Williams Contractors Catalog which shows the various colors offered on page 166. You can also view the details of the products, including safety specs, and more on their website here at sherwin-williams.com.
With your new concrete stained floor there's no regular frequent maintenance required. We suggest another coat of sealer added in 5 or more years only if you prefer the high shine that is given off when first completed.
With the ease of use, unique look, and low maintenance, there's no wonder why this type of flooring has become so popular.
